HADY SY
Hady Sy, born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1964, embodies a unique blend of cultural influences, stemming from his Senegalese-Lebanese heritage. After enduring the Lebanese civil war, Sy pursued his education in Paris, eventually establishing himself as a prominent figure in the art world.
Known for his multidisciplinary approach, Sy’s work delves into social, existential, and geopolitical themes. His photography series, like “Marigramme de L’a’mour” (2018), explore the nuances of romantic love using unconventional methods. Witnessing the events of September 11, 2001, in New York City profoundly impacted Sy, leading him to fuse activism with art, as seen in projects like “In God We Trust” (2004) and “Not For Sale” (2009). Collaborations with artists like French singer Camille underscore Sy’s commitment to using art as a tool for social commentary and change. Today, Sy resides in Beirut, channeling his artistic vision towards the city’s reconstruction.
