KARINE HOCHAR
Karine, born in Beirut in 1970, is a self-taught sculptor specializing in bronze sculptures, influenced by her unique Mexican-Lebanese heritage. Immersed in art from an early age, she drew inspiration from her artistic family and her father’s iconic Chateau Musar wine.
Her exploration of drawing and painting eventually led her to sculpture, fueled by her country’s rich cultural heritage and a twelve-year stay in Paris during Lebanon’s civil war. After working in the family winery, she transitioned to art, starting with furniture and cakes before focusing on sculpture. Her workshop, nestled in the Cedar Mountains overlooking the Holy Valley of Qadisha, serves as a serene backdrop for her creations.
Her sculptures, characterized by rough surfaces and generous volumes, reflect both serenity and turmoil, influenced by her experiences and emotions. Karine’s work invites exploration and discovery, offering a glimpse into her multicultural perspective and the complexity of her artistic journey.
