TAREK AMIN - KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA

Scientific and Technological Achievement – 2016

Dr. Tarek Amin, a Senior Distinguished Consultant in Surgical Oncology at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH) in Riyadh, is one of Saudi Arabia’s pioneering surgeons in surgical oncology. Educated at Manchester University Medical School in the UK and trained in the UK, Canada, and the USA, Dr. Amin has dedicated 40 years to advancing oncology services in Saudi Arabia, allowing complex cancer procedures to be performed locally rather than abroad.

He introduced innovative treatments, including cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), and established an advanced intra-operative radiotherapy (IORT) program at KFSH, performing over 110 IORT procedures. Dr. Amin holds the world’s largest patient record for combining HIPEC and IORT in advanced cancer cases.

Committed to talent development, Dr. Amin has made KFSH a leading training center for surgical oncology in the region. His contributions have earned him numerous awards, including a place on the KFSH Honour Board for exceptional performance in surgical oncology, an award from King Faisal University, and the MSA Grand Appreciation in 2014. Dr. Amin is also a founding member of the combined sarcoma clinic and service, collaborating with oncology and orthopedic departments to provide comprehensive care for sarcoma patients.
