TAKREEM Honorary Board Member Marc Levy Awarded France’s Prestigious Legion of Honor
French novelist and TAKREEM Foundation Honorary Board Member Marc Levy has been named a Knight of the Legion of Honor (Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur), one of France’s highest civilian distinctions. Established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, the Legion of Honor recognizes individuals for outstanding service to France across various fields, including culture, science, and public service. Levy joins a distinguished list of cultural figures honored this year, including actress Léa Drucker, musician Jean-Louis Aubert, and writer Marc Levy himself. The list also includes global feminist Gisèle Pelicot and novelist Andreï Makine, who were likewise named Knights. With more than 50 million books sold worldwide, Levy is considered one of France’s most widely read contemporary authors. His works, translated into numerous languages, often explore themes of love, human connection, and resilience. Levy now stands among renowned literary and cultural figures who have received this distinction in previous years, including Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, and Karl Lagerfeld. His latest recognition reinforces his position as a leading voice in contemporary French literature.
