SABAH AL-AHMAD AL-JABER AL-SABAH - KUWAIT
His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait and Commander of the Kuwait Military Forces, was sworn in on 29 January 2006. Known for his dedication to reform, his government appointed Kuwait’s first female minister and enacted laws to encourage foreign investment. His Highness has an extensive background in foreign policy, having served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for nearly forty years, where he became renowned for his diplomatic expertise.
A staunch advocate of tolerance, diversity, and cultural integration, Sheikh Al-Sabah has worked to strengthen Kuwait’s foreign relations, especially with the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council. His approach to politics emphasizes supporting Arab countries through loans, mediation, and diplomatic efforts to foster Arab unity and resolve regional conflicts. He has also been vocal in condemning terrorism and advocating for Islam as a religion of peace and kindness.
Sheikh Al-Sabah’s leadership was instrumental in garnering international support for Kuwait after the 1990 invasion, leading to Security Council Resolution 678. His global humanitarian efforts earned him the title of “Arab World Humanitarian Personality of 2014” from the Arab Family Organization and “Leader of the Humanitarian World” from the United Nations. In 2017, Kuwait University awarded him an Honorary Doctorate for his impactful global humanitarian work, further cementing his legacy as a diplomatic and humanitarian leader.
