Prof. Lihadh Al-Gazali is a Professor of Clinical Genetics and Pediatrics at the UAE University, College of Medicine and Health Sciences. She graduated from Baghdad University with an MBCHB and specialized in pediatrics and genetics in the UK, gaining fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health. Internationally acclaimed in clinical genetics and dysmorphology, Prof. Al-Gazali has made substantial contributions to understanding genetic disorders, particularly those affecting Arab populations.

Her research focuses on the clinical and molecular aspects of autosomal recessive disorders prevalent in the UAE and broader Arab world. She has published over 200 papers in renowned journals, and in 2006, she was featured in The Lancet for her work in Middle Eastern clinical genetics.

In 2008, she received the UNESCO-L’OREAL Award for Women in Science for her groundbreaking identification of new inherited diseases. Her other honors include the Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences and honorary membership in the Alpha-Omega-Alpha Medical Society in the U.S., acknowledging her significant medical contributions. Prof. Al-Gazali also plays an active role in the scientific community, serving as a founding member of the Center for Arab Genomic Studies, a jury member for the L’Oreal-UNESCO Award since 2011, and a participant in the EU-GCC STI cooperation in science and technology. Her influence spans various international boards and committees, cementing her as a leading figure in medical genetics.
