GEORGE GALLOWAY - UNITED KINGDOM
George Galloway served as a Member of Parliament for 23 years, elected five times. At age 26, he became the youngest chairman of the Scottish Labour Party and worked as a full-time party organizer. In 1980, he founded the British Trades Union Friends of Palestine, later establishing the Emergency Committee against the Invasion of Lebanon in 1982. A staunch advocate for Middle Eastern causes, he opposed the Gulf War in 1990 and later became chair of the Emergency Committee on Iraq and Palestine (ECIP).
Galloway’s activism earned him Pakistan’s highest civilian honor, the Hilal-i-Quaid-i-Azam, for his role in supporting democracy. As a co-founder of the Stop the War Coalition, he helped mobilize two million people in the UK to protest the Iraq War. In 2009, he established Viva Palestina, a charity that raised funds and organized convoys to deliver aid to Gaza.
Galloway contributes weekly columns to the Daily Record, and has written for The Guardian and the Morning Star. He is a frequent broadcaster and public speaker, hosting a national phone-in show on talkSPORT and the program “Kalima Hurra” on Al Mayadeen. Known for his powerful oratory, he was named Parliamentary Debater of the Year in 2003. He has authored several books, including Downfall: The Ceausescu’s and the Romanian Revolution (1990), I’m Not the Only One (2004), and The Fidel Castro Handbook (2006).
