Cherien Dabis Shortlisted for 2026 Academy Awards

Cherien Dabis, TAKREEM America Cultural Excellence Award 2022 laureate, has marked a significant new milestone in her career as her latest feature film, All That’s Left of You, has been shortlisted for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards (2026). The announcement places Dabis among a select group of Arab filmmakers whose work has reached the final 15 shortlisted titles, an unprecedented moment for Arab cinema, reflecting its expanding global presence and narrative strength. All That’s Left of You, written, directed by, and starring Dabis, unfolds an intimate story of a Palestinian family across three generations in the West Bank, tracing themes of displacement, memory, and endurance. The film features performances by Mohammad Bakri, Saleh Bakri, Maria Zreik, alongside Dabis herself, and represents her third feature film. The 2026 shortlist is particularly notable for highlighting Arab-produced films and female Arab directors, with three of the four shortlisted Arab titles centered on Palestinian narratives. The official Academy Award nominations are set to be announced on January 22, 2026.
