Book Launch and Tribute to Dr. Nabil Dajani: Before I Forget
As part of its 2024–25 academic programming, the Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES) at the American University of Beirut is proud to co-organize a deeply meaningful event: a book launch and tribute in honor of Dr. Nabil Dajani, one of Lebanon’s most respected scholars in the field of media and communication. The event, scheduled for April 9 at 5:00 PM, will feature the launch of Dr. Dajani’s latest book, Before I Forget — a personal and intellectual memoir chronicling a lifetime of engagement with academia, journalism, activism, and public life in Lebanon and the Arab world. In this work, Dr. Dajani reflects on his decades-long journey as a pioneering media scholar, his role in shaping communication studies in the region, and his unyielding commitment to academic freedom, ethical journalism, and social justice. This tribute also offers an opportunity to recognize Dr. Dajani’s lasting legacy at AUB, where he served for many years as a beloved professor and mentor. A panel of colleagues, former students, and friends will reflect on his intellectual contributions, the challenges he helped the university navigate, and the example he set for principled academic engagement in times of political and societal turbulence. In addition to his distinguished academic career, Dr. Dajani is a founding member of the TAKREEM Foundation and currently serves on its Nomination Board. Through this role, he has continued to champion excellence across the Arab world, supporting the recognition of individuals and institutions whose work embodies the values of leadership, integrity, and innovation. Through this gathering, CAMES celebrates not only the publication of a remarkable memoir but also the life and legacy of a scholar who has profoundly influenced generations of thinkers and practitioners in the Arab world and beyond.
