Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Kazem Imran Ansaf is an accomplished Iraqi academic,
engineer, and institutional leader with more than twenty-five years of experience in
research, teaching, and higher education reform across Iraq and the United States.
Currently serving as President of the University of Baghdad, he has previously held
teaching and leadership positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT),
the University of Michigan, the University of Missouri, and Colorado State University–
Pueblo, where he directed the Mechatronics Engineering Program. A graduate of the
University of Baghdad with B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Mechanical
Engineering, Dr. Ansaf has combined academic rigor with visionary leadership
through roles such as Director General at Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and
Scientific Research, Academic Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office, and Chair of
several national committees for education and technology transfer.
He pioneered the Iraqi Virtual Science Library (IVSL), Iraq’s first national digital library,
and played a central role in the country’s largest scholarship initiative, enabling
thousands of Iraqi students to pursue advanced degrees abroad. His outstanding
work has earned him international recognition, including Appreciation Awards from
the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for academic review (2021–
2025), recognition from ABET for engineering program evaluation, and multiple
Excellence in Faculty Awards for Scholarship and Creative Activity at Colorado State
University–Pueblo.
He has also received numerous letters of appreciation from the Iraqi Prime Minister
and the Ministry of Higher Education for his leadership and contributions to
education reform. A prolific researcher in smart materials, AI engineering, robotics,
and renewable energy, Dr. Ansaf continues to lead the University of Baghdad’s Vision
2030, advancing innovation, global collaboration, and sustainable education systems
that bridge Iraq with the world.
