Al Multaqa Literary Salon
Special Distinction – 2025
Al Multaqa Literary Salon was established in 1995 in Abu Dhabi with a clear mission: to enrich the cultural landscape of the United Arab Emirates through the promotion of Arabic literature, dialogue, and cross-cultural exchange. Founded by Mrs. Asma Seddiq Al Mutawa, the Salon has grown into one of the UAE’s leading cultural platforms, known for its intellectual depth, literary engagement, and inclusive approach. Rooted in a deep belief in the power of reading and the Arabic language, Al Multaqa fosters an environment that respects diversity and welcomes different cultural perspectives. Over the years, it has drawn a wide community of writers, thinkers, and readers from the UAE, the Arab region, and beyond, becoming a vibrant space for literary and intellectual dialogue. The novel has been at the heart of the Salon’s programming, offering expansive grounds for reflection, discussion, and imaginative exploration. Through its unique narrative forms, the novel becomes a bridge between cultures and a mirror for the self. In addition to literature, Al Multaqa has hosted seminars and discussions on philosophy, poetry, history, psychology, photography, language, and the fine arts. Its efforts have been recognized globally. In 2006, it became a member of the UNESCO Clubs Movement, in recognition of its commitment to cultural inclusivity and dialogue. It has published 17 books and spearheaded various community initiatives including book donations, reading campaigns, and partnerships with humanitarian organizations such as the UAE Red Crescent and Médecins Sans Frontières. Founder Asma Seddiq Al Mutawa has received numerous accolades, including the GCC Literary Award (Janadriah 2009) and the UAE Pioneers Award 2016 from H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for her outstanding contribution to promoting reading. Al Multaqa continues to serve as a beacon of cultural engagement, literary appreciation, and social responsibility in the Arab world.
