Saudi contemporary artist Ahmed Mater, the TAKREEM Foundation Cultural Excellence Laureate of 2018, has officially launched Antenna, his first major solo exhibition in China. The exhibition marks a significant milestone in cultural exchange between Saudi Arabia and China. Presented by the Saudi Ministry of Culture’s Visual Arts Commission in partnership with UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Antenna opened on March 8, 2025, at UCCA Edge in Shanghai. As part of the Saudi-Chinese Cultural Year 2025, the exhibition features over 100 works spanning Mater’s career, delving into themes of heritage, modernity, and social transformation. A leading figure in Saudi Arabia’s contemporary art movement, Mater’s work invites Chinese audiences to engage with a powerful visual narrative shaped by cultural identity and change. Following his acclaimed solo show at Christie’s London in July 2024, Antenna further solidifies Mater’s international stature while strengthening artistic dialogue and cultural ties between the two nations.
