Dr. Yousef Alhorr is the Founding Chairman of the Gulf Organization for Research & Development (GORD), a leading non-profit in Qatar that advances global sustainability.

Under his guidance, GORD launched the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), the first green building rating system in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), which evaluates sustainable practices in buildings and infrastructure.Dr. Alhorr has driven innovations like the Synergia 7n1 cooling technology, recognized for its impact on sustainable practices across multiple sectors. His advisory role in major events, including the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, highlights his influence on integrating sustainability into sports. He currently leads sustainability planning for the International Horticultural Expo 2023 in Doha, overseeing execution plans and assessments for sustainable event management.

As chairman of the Global Carbon Council (GCC), the first internationally accredited voluntary carbon offset program in the MENA region, Dr. Alhorr supports eco-friendly projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions globally. Additionally, he heads Qatar’s Global Accreditation Bureau (GAB), which certifies organizations for meeting international standards, including ISO 14065:2020 on greenhouse gas assertions. Regionally, he leads the GCC Standardization Organization’s Technical Subcommittee for Sustainable Buildings, shaping sustainable building standards.
